The effects of aging are inevitable, especially on the face. With age, the skin begins to lose its elasticity resulting in lines and wrinkles appearing on the face and neck region. Not everyone ages the same. Some people, along with lines and wrinkles, can develop deep folds and creases due to loose sagging skin. A facelift is performed to tighten the underlying tissue structures of the face and neck to achieve a smoother and younger-looking appearance.
Salem plastic surgeons Dr. Keith Neaman and Dr. Dustin Christiansen of Neaman Plastic Surgery both have a detailed understanding of facial anatomy in addition to extensive experience in facial cosmetic surgery procedures. Together, they will work with you to devise the perfect facelift plan that will display your aesthetic goals. Please call us at 844-338-5445 to schedule your personal consultation and find out more about your facelift options.
While you can’t stop the aging process, a facelift can take years off your appearance. It has proven to be a life-changing cosmetic procedure giving people back the confidence to go out in public and smile. A facelift removes excess skin and pulls the remaining facial skin tight to achieve smooth, youthful contours that enhance your jawline and cheekbones. With just one procedure, you are able to achieve drastic results that reverse gravity and turn the clock back.
A facelift can achieve the following:
One of the biggest concerns of patients when considering a facelift is getting that “overdone” look. They’re worried that their results will look exaggerated or unnatural. However, when performed by a surgeon who understands facial anatomy and how the facial features complement each other, a facelift can achieve a rejuvenated, natural-looking appearance. Dr. Neaman and Dr. Christiansen are skilled at several facelift techniques and are dedicated to your satisfaction.
A facelift can range from minor procedures, such as CO2 laser resurfacing, to significant surgery where multiple treatments are combined for optimum results, such as a facelift with a brow lift and eyelid surgery. There are two main types of facelifts a mini and a full.
Mini Facelift – If you don’t have extensive signs of aging and your major concern is on the lower area of the face, a mini facelift may be sufficient to reach your cosmetic goals. A mini facelift lifts and tightens the cheeks and removes jowls and other bulges along the jawline and neck. A mini facelift does not require as many incisions as a full facelift, and it requires a shorter recovery period.
Full Facelift – A full facelift addresses the entire facial region. It can be a rather lengthy surgery, sometimes lasting up to four to six hours depending on the extent of cosmetic work to be completed. Incisions are made in the natural crease in front of the ear, around the earlobe and behind the ear. This helps to minimize the appearance of scarring. From here, the facial skin is elevated so the underlying muscles and tissues on the face and neck can be tightened and recontoured. Excess skin is removed and the remaining skin is pulled tight and redraped back over the face to be sutured shut.

During a full facelift, it is common for patients to add eyelid surgery or a brow lift to completely treat the face. Eyelid surgery can remove skin that hangs over your eyes that is disrupting your vision while an eyebrow lift can lift your eyebrows to a higher position thus reducing forehead wrinkles. Together, they can create a rested and alert appearance that complements the facial contouring results of a facelift. And although a neck lift may be performed as an independent procedure, it too, is commonly conducted in conjunction with a facelift. A neck lift is designed to eliminate loose skin that tends to accumulate in bands around the neck and provide improved definition to the neck and jawline.
Following a facelift, your face will be bandaged, and you may or may not have a tube placed for drainage. Bruising, swelling and tenderness are common after surgery but should subside within a week or two. Your face may feel tight initially. This is common and should relax some after the swelling has gone down. Your results will continue to improve over the next several months as your face and skin continue to heal. Your final result can begin to be seen after six months, where you will notice a tighter, smoother, more rejuvenated facial profile. Although your results are long-lasting and can last for years, you are still susceptible to the natural aging process; however, you can stave off aging by taking care of your skin. A good skin care routine and taking advantage of medispa treatments, such Botox, dermal fillers, and microneedling, can help to prevent future signs of aging.
