What’s the Skinny on Tendonitis?

The tendon is a thick cord that attaches the muscle to a bone. When this cord becomes irritated or inflamed it is called tendonitis. Tendonitis can be very painful and can make it very difficult to do common tasks like typing on a computer, knitting, or gardening. Tendonitis can affect anyone of any age but is most common among adults who use their hands a lot.

Common examples of tendonitis are DeQuervain’s tenosynovitis and trigger fingers. The initial treatments for tendonitis include rest, ice, and anti-inflammatory drugs. However, if symptoms don’t improve, under the direction of your physician, you may be advised to receive steroid injections, physical therapy or possibly surgery.

Portland surgeon, Dr. Keith C. Neaman has received extensive training on hand issues including the common causes of tendonitis such as trigger finger and DeQuervain’s tenosynovitis. If you feel that you are experiencing any of the symptoms of tendonitis, please contact Dr. Neaman at 844-338-5445 for a consultation. Each patient is different, and a consultation is the best way to see if we can help. If you have received treatment for tendonitis and have not seen a significant improvement in the function of the affected area, please contact Neaman Plastic Surgery to see if we can help you in any way.
