The stomach can be a troubling area of the body for men and women alike. Sometimes working out can’t yield the results you’d like, especially after childbirth or significant weight loss. There is a variety of body contouring options for the mid-section. So do you go for a full or a mini tummy tuck? Talking with one of the surgeons at Neaman Plastic Surgery will provide you with a patient’s specific treatment plan. However, there are some of the differences between the two which are worth mentioning.

Mini Tummy Tuck vs Full Tummy Tuck

A Mini Tummy Tuck is generally a smaller version of a full abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). With a full abdominoplasty, your entire abdomen is being treated. A larger scar will be created along the bikini line. In a mini abdominoplasty, the extra skin between your belly button and your pubic area is only partially excised. In a full abdominoplasty, your whole abdomen is being treated. Underlying muscles are being tightened and more skin is excised. The traditional tummy tuck allows for much more skin tightening and abdominal contouring. Not everyone will be a candidate for the full tummy tuck though.

Another fundamental difference is the belly button. In a full tummy tuck, the belly button is cored out and re-inset through a new area in the abdominal skin after the loose skin has been tightened. In a mini tummy tuck, the belly button is left attached to the surrounding skin. A true mini tummy tuck just removes a small amount of skin near the pubic bone and the incision is kept very short. Liposuction is often used in both scenarios.
