Neck lifts are typically performed on an outpatient basis under twilight or local anesthesia. Incisions are placed behind the ears or under the jawline so as not to be visible. The weakened neck muscles are also tightened and realigned. Any excess skin and fat are removed prior to the remaining skin being pulled taut and sutured shut. Depending on the amount of fat to be removed, liposuction may also be utilized to create a desirable contour. Through a process called fat grafting, fat may also be redistributed to other areas on the neck or facial region to achieve your desired results.

Some bruising and swelling are to be expected following a neck lift. You may also feel some slight tightness. All of these side effects will resolve on their own within a week at which point you should begin to see your full results. During this time, pain medication may be prescribed to help ease any possible discomfort. Any applied dressings will be removed within a day or two of surgery, and sutures will be removed after a week.
As with most facial surgeries, your neck lift results will be long-lasting; however, you are still susceptible to the natural aging process and will need to take care of your skin and protect it to prevent future signs of aging. This includes avoiding excess sun exposure and wearing a lotion with an SPF when exposed.
