WHAT IS WRIST ARTHROSCOPY?

Wrist arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that is used to look inside the wrist. It is often used to help visualize the cartilage, bones and ligamentous structures that make up the wrist. It is performed through very small incisions allowing the surgeon to diagnose and treat various disorders of the wrist with less swelling and a shorter recovery than traditional open procedures.

WHEN IS WRIST ARTHROSCOPY PERFORMED?

  • Diagnosis and treatment of pain following injuries of the wrist
  • Diagnosis of painful clicks
  • Treatment of ligament tears
  • Ganglion removal
  • Treatment of wrist fractures
  • Post-operative recovery

Full mobility of the fingers is allowed after wrist arthroscopy in most cases. Sometimes a period of short wrist immobilization is required depending on the condition being treated.
